ABOUT US

FOCUS ODISHA FOUNDATION is a social start-up incorporated in the year 2017 as a Trust, co-creating solutions that are sustainable. The basic thrust on which the Organisation is built -is working for SUSTAINABLE FUTURE.

We at Focus Odisha Foundation have always cherished the goal of social good and community empowerment through collective initiatives. We believe through Information, Education, Communication, and sustained interventions we can bring changes, empower communities and transform the society.

We focused on Shaping the Development Debate and concentrated on objective analysis of issues and subjects confronting people and engaging in Policy Analysis, Policy Dialogue and Policy Advocacy.

Our work is largely based on burgeoning issues like Environment, Biodiversity, Ecological conservation which are now threatened by Climate Change impacts and Extreme Climatic Events. While Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) are core areas, we have Migration and Governance is the thematic interventions. Amidst all these all our work, initiatives, interventions are integrated with working to contribute-achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which means to create awareness through IEC.

To further this cause, over the years we have built Civil Society Networks around these themes like-CCCA, DRR, Migration, SDGs and are in constant engagement with Government. Besides, we had also urged the government to prepare a State and Central Budget based on Sustainable GoalsWe aim at all-round development of the State, where there shall be no regional imbalance, resources are adequately and equally distributed and livelihoods of people ensured. Over the years we have developed as a Think Tank on Odisha and working towards empowering people and communities besides contributing development dialogue.

Focus Odisha Foundation was registered as a Trust on 20th September 2017 with its registered office in Bhubaneswar, Odisha and the scope of the Organization is to work all over Odisha. We have 11-member General Body Members of which 7 are Governing Body Members drawn from various fields of work and with adequate Women Representation, besides SC, ST and Minority Members.

Focus Odisha Foundation closely worked with the communities in taking up the issues related to the Mahanadi water conservation and judicious use of water bodies and  conducted a study on Mahanadi. Also, Focus Odisha worked on developing people’s agenda in terms of generating charter of demands from different categories of people through organizing consultations. Also, it worked on developing Citizen’s Charter and sharing the same with Government authorities.

Focus Odisha organised a state level consultation on the issue of climate change and facilitated peoples from different parts of Odisha to share their issues pertaining to the emergency response of the Government before the Finance Minister and other state authority. Also, the organization has played a critical role in generating discourse around the issue of climate change, water, and emergency response of the Government during and after natural disasters.

FOCUS ODISHA has forged a network of Civil Society Organisations in the State to streamline Civil Society Responses on issues concerning the State and people.

The network of NGOs will also mean supporting efforts to arrest ecosystem encroachments and harmful practices, restore degraded ecosystems, and close down illegal trade and tensions arising out among communities, while protecting communities that depend on these for their food supply and livelihoods.

The NGO Network’s work in this field is nurtured by its experience in working closely with the community in the implementation of the SDGs and in strengthening CBOs, SHGs, Youth Groups and community level institutions and fostering inclusiveness.

The Network is ready to repurpose its social cohesion portfolio at the community level, to reinforce peace and stability and strengthen social dialogue and democratic engagement processes. The Network shall support member community and local authorities in conflict analysis and conflict sensitivity, based on well-established methodologies and tools. The Network will adopt multi-stakeholder and multidisciplinary approaches seeking creative solutions to local problems.

The Network is a critical player in promoting community resilience, providing a rights-based response to development, and supporting investments in empowered and resilient community-led response systems, working with and through a wide variety of stakeholders and tailored according to needs and context. Over the years, NGOs have engaged with community-led organizations. Special attention is given to women´s organizations like SHGs to ensure they are equally part of local assessments and solutions. All these capacities can help bridge humanitarian – development approaches, particularly in fragile and low-income contexts in the proposed program area where local governments require enhanced support.
